In relation to downloading, what is seeding? I just waited for something to download, and it got to 100%, and then it started 'seeding'. I checked the FAQ of the site, but the questions only suit people who already know what 'seeding' means. Anyone know?

Seeding refers to Bit Torrent downloads.
If you are seeding, that means you or the person that is seeding has the file and is distributing it. Basically, you downloaded a file and is now sharing it to others.

A seed is a complete copy of the file that someone is making available for download. While your computer can (and does) distribute the pieces of a partially-downloaded file at any time, it can only be a seed if it contains 100% of the data in the file.

When you download a file using, say, Bittorrent, your computer exchanges many different pieces of the file with other computers. You send some data to them, they send some to you. When you have downloaded the entire file, you are eligible to begin seeding, that is feeding out any and all of the file's data to other downloaders. But, for the process to start and, indeed, finish, there must be at least one seed on somebody's computer to ensure that everyone else can get a complete copy. Therefore, leaving your completely-downloaded file available as a seed is very useful to the overall process.

Seeding is part of a very cooperative and efficient transaction that benefits all of the downloaders, no matter where they are in the process.of downloading the file.

Seeding basically means sharing. When you download a torrent file, you are actually downloading it in small pieces from several people who have the file (seeders) and are sharing it all at the same time. The more seeders that are sharing the file, the faster the download.

This is why Limewire sucks and torrent sharing is surging ahead. Less viruses, more files, faster downloading.

Seeding means you have a complete copy of whatever you downloaded. People who are "seeding" have fully completed downloading it, and have all available pieces of the file(s) to upload.

Uploading the file to others. In general it is considered good form to seed until your download:upload ratio is 1:1, but no one actually does it.
