The Treaty of Versailles that ended the First World War (aka WWI or The Great War) was in some ways needlessly punitive. This left a lot of hard feeling, especially in Germany. In this climate, exacerbated by the difficulties of the Great Depression, Hitler was able to seize power and begin an attempt to conquer Europe and re-make it in his "Aryan" image.
On the other side of the globe, Japan had emerged from its long period of self-imposed separation from the outside world in the mid 1800's when Americans under Admiral Perry initiated contact. They determined to become as modern as possible. After winning the Russo-Japanese war in 1905, the impulse grew to one of imperial power. In 1931 they invaded Manchuria (in China) and began the Showa period. In 1940 they became Allies with Germany and in 1941 they attacked Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, prompting the United States to enter the war. Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto is credited with saying, after the attack on Pearl Harbor, "I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve."
V E Day (Victory in Europe) was May 8, 1945.
V J Day (Victory over Japan) was August 15, 1945.

World War II (abbreviated WWII), or the Second World War, was a worldwide conflict fought between the Allied Powers and the Axis Powers, from 1939 until 1945. Armed forces from over seventy nations engaged in aerial, naval, and ground-based combat. Spanning much of the globe, World War II resulted in the deaths of over sixty million people, making it by far the deadliest conflict in human history. The war ended in 1945 with an Allied victory.

It started in 1939 when Adoph Hitler, the dictator of Germany and his Nazi stormtroopers entered Poland to conquer it and then other countries as well.Britain declared war and then it went from there. Japan was invading different asian countries and islands in the pacific during the same period on an empire conquest. They decided after taking China and Korea that they could also take the U.S. and in 1941, they invaded Hawaii and theis caused President Roosevelt to declare war on Japan as well as Germany and Italy who had formed the Axis Empire.

Of course this is just my short summary of the war and many events I had left out cuz it would have taken much longer to go more into detail

Essentially a continuation of WWI
Hitler and his nazi party came to power pushing nationalistic ideas and soon took up the fight by focusing on the unfair terms given to germeny at the end of WW I.
Japan attacked the US because it was blocking Japan's imperialistic expansions.
It lasted untill 1945. Germany fell when after it was overextended the allies landed in normandy and the russians pushed from the east.
Japan surrendered after two atomic attacks on civilian targets.

that's a very broad question ... with limited space to answer. Just look up World War 2 in Wikipedia or something. Unless you want to be more specific with the question.

ok, some bad dictators, Hitler, Mussolinni, Stalin, maybe some more too were trying to take over the world
The allies stopped them though. Lots of people were killed out of just plain hate, and lots of soldiers died.
It was bad all around, my dads folks came to the US to escape it.
My Dads grandmother gave the food to her kids and starved.
Lots of stories like that. Bad times all around I think.
