Because people like to be optimistic.
In addition to your question, I would like to add:
If the future does arrive, wouldn't sitting around all day be a waste?
It can go either way. Those who are optimistic will usually try their best every day, in hope that the future will come. Those who are pessimistic will usually not try, believing that it is pointless, because the future could never come.
I hope I was helpful. Good luck!

I'm not killing myself but I think many people are. Those "things" can be elusive and the harder you grab the farther they go from your reach. Yes, the future may never arrive, today could be anyone's last day to live. That doesn't mean you don't need to prepare for the future for we do need to do that.

That was the concept and solution of the "Heaven's Gate Cult" a few years back. Things may not always turn out the way you hope for, but it is far more valiant and courageous to live, love and give in the present. Allow tomorrow to take care of itself.
