It depends on the animal. I know that parrots see in black and white under normal light, but under UV light or in the sunshine can see in colour. That's how they distinquish between male and female and what fruit is fresh. As for the rest, I've heard cats see in red...don't know how true that one is.

people spell colours like that because it is the proper way to spell the word, in spite of what the spell check sez.
yes, animals see colours...the back of the eye has a membrane consisting of light sensing cells called "rods" and "cones" one of the two (i forget which one) is the colour sensor, animals have them, some just don't have as many as we do. most carnivores have fewer colour sensor cells than vegetarian or omnivores, but they do have them...some bird and insects see colours in a very vivid and brilliant spectrum far brighter than we do. dogs and cats see the colours but they are greyed down quite a bit, but they still see colours. i think it was National Geographic had an article about this topic about 2 years ago...or Sience Digest...i get the publications mixed up though i read many of them, i can't keep straight which one is which that i read something in...sorry. I hope this helps some.

The reason we know if an animal can see in color comes from whether or not they have color receptors in their cornea. Dogs do not, but they do see in a shade of color similar to Sepia.

Who's to say no? We can't see through their eyes. My cat seems to be attracted to/plays with things that are red.
