What are the other 3 disks for? What do you do to get to the other disks? Is there a game to beat, or is it just desiging people and watching them live their lives?

All the disc are used to install the game. After that the first disc is the one you use to play the game.
There is no "beating the game" you create Sims and help them carry out their lives. There are shops you can make, houses, they can get jobs, etc. There are endless amount of entertainment Maxis provides.
Its very addicting ^_^

Not sure what you mean by "the other three disks" several discs are needed to install the game or the DVD version there is only 1 disc. There is not a game to beat, it's a sandbox game where you can express your creativity but there are objectives that have rewards attached to them, to keep it interesting, but these can also be ignored and you still have fun.

All 4 discs are needed to install the game and there is no real "beating" of the game. It just keeps going on and on. The object of the game is to create people lives and and have them and their families live on and to watch and control their everday lives.
