Why don't you do Summertime. That song can be done anyway, any style. I've sung it operatic to blues to jazz. And let's not forget Janis' rock/blues version.

I'm assuming this is up there with America's Got Talent -- same thing and all. (American.) If so, then I've seen the show. You seem to have the voice for something big -- but I would sing what you are most comfortable with. On that stage, in front of thousands of people, you're going to get nervous. If you sing something you know like the back of your hand, you are much, much less likely to mess up. That song you've performed a million times will come in handy -- just take that and go over the top with it. Be comfortable with it, but make sure it's not like every other performance out there. (That said as well, if everybody's going to be singing the same song, make sure you don't sing that one. Monotony will put the judges to sleep. Or sing it, but put your own individual spin on it.)
And as far as dress goes? You seem young enough -- ask your mother's opinion. I know it seems stupid, but your mother will be able to visualize you on that telly and know what is right and wrong to wear. In short: nothing that will take away from your voice. You seem like you got one, as well -- why distract with some flashy outfit?
All in all, good luck! Break a leg.

I really hope you realise, that Simon Cowell is a genious.
Imagine how many people are going to audition for this thing right.
He cannot go through every single person - there will probably be about 150,000 people entering. He would die of old age before he got to the last person.
These programs are clever - they pick about 15 "Screen Stars" - the ones that make the best TV - the really ugly ones, that think they are beautiful, the really crap ones that think they are the best, and the really determined ones, who will cry and scream every time they get bad news about their singing.
The only way to stand a chance here, is to be EXTREME. Look ridiculous, sing something ridiculous - there are millions upon MILLIONS of people out there, who will sing Xtina, or Mariah Carey, thinking "I'm so good - I will easily get through..."
Don't get your heart broken by this program. It's the same with X Factor, and Pop Idol etc

I would strongly suggest NOT using a well known artists song. Simon hears those kind of songs ALL THE TIME. I would suggest singing something less well known, perhaps an older song or one by Joss Stone or another artist that isn't played constantly. When you sing something well known you have to be able to do as well if not better than the artist that performs it. It's difficult to do that when you will probably suffer for the comparison.
Wear something simple, jeans and a nice sweater or shirt. Don't try to dress older than you are and don't try to dress too flashy. The main thing is to show off your singing ability and personallity, don't try to be something you're not.

Hi there . Well done, I did have a giggle reading most of these lines. Some are a bit over the top, and I wouldn't want to try, you might end up getting dragged away in a straight jacket. I am just envisioning the looks on peoples faces, what a hoot, I probably would have trouble with keeping a straight face, and burst out laughing my self, In-particular I liked # 6 # 10 # 13 #14 These things certainly would give the passengers something to talk about when they got off, I can just hear them now, Oh did you see that weirdo what a nut case........... Good one I look forward to your next one. ..................Cheers.................

go back in time and pick a song by a strong female vocalist from the 50's or 60's. On the american idol auditions I hear nothing but lady marmalade & other super popular hits. Do something different that will make you stand out from the crowd. Wear something appropriate for a 12 year old - don't try to make yourself look 18. Look online at stars who started young like LeeAnn Rimes, see how they presented their image and combine it with your own style. Good luck!

The YouTube video sharing site is a good place to search for songs you like and see them performed by the original artists. Its not an MP3 download site, its just for watching videos.
From karaoke singing I've found that old songs from the 1960s and before are easier to sing. They're from the days when songs had meaningful lyics, not just repeated ooh yeah baby, etc.
Pick a song with strong emotion in it. The reason some movies are so good is the choice of music that really stirs the emotions and tugs at your heart-strings.
Don't just copy the original singer and their voice, think about what the lyrics mean, what situation are they describing, who is singing to who, and what you and they would feel.
Make sure the vocal range (low-notes to high-notes) isn't too big. You don't want to go off-key on the high notes. Your voice can get shaky when you're nervous in front of judges or an audience and you may not be able to hit a high note accurately in the same way that you can at home when you're relaxed.
Decide whether you voice is suited to quiet songs with accurate pitch or a real powerful belter. Try not to sing with a horrible 'nasal' voice, singing down your nose, like some amatuer singers do. Some early madonna numbers demonstrate this style, even though I like them overall.
Here's a few old ones :-
Walk on by (Dionne Warwick) - Vocal range stays in the middle.
Anyone who had a heart (Dionne Warwick, covered by Cilla Black of all people) - Starts quietly, then gets powerful. Done by Vonzell Solomon on American Idol.
Feels Like I'm in Love (Kelly Marie) - Really poppy, upbeat number, good for a young singer. Older judges will remember the original. Younger judges will remember later cover versions by other people.
You Don't Have To Say You Love Me (1966) (Dusty Springfield) - Slow, easy limited vocal range, but emotional.
Always On My Mind (Willie Nelson) - Covered by Elvis and many others. A favourite karaoke number as its easy to sing, but you can put more emotion into it if you think about the words and what it would mean to you if you had lost someone.
If you look at videos of Pop Idol etc on YouTube (see link), its well worth looking at what other people did right and wrong, in terms of their choice of song, ability to sing high and low notes, pitch notes accurately, cope with fast and slow bits, put the emotion and emphasis in the right place, wave their arms around too much or too little, etc. You can learn from other people's mistakes and avoid them yourself.
In these competitions, you need to get through the early stages where unknown judges filter out thousands of people. You need a really unusual song or a common song very well done.
At 12 years old, you need to get lots of opinions from different people (adults and the same age as you) on how you need to appear - cute, sexy, like a powerful adult singer such as Jennifer Rush singing the power of love, or what. You don't want to try to appear too adult if you don't look old enough.
If you're thinking of singing as a career (in pop, on cruise liners, in holiday entertainment clubs abroad, etc), you might want to ask more questions on here about it.
Good luck.

Don't try to impress. Simon doesn't like that. Wear something that's something you would wear to the prom, but not too flashy.
The song... Do the song Hurt by Christina Agulaira. It's a really pretty song.
Look up the lyrics to it at http://www.azlyrics.com/
Look up the video or song on http://www.youtube.com/ or http://www.music.aol.com/
Good luck!
Hopefully I'll see you on that show!
Oh, and yay you!!!!
Congrats if you get on, by the way.
:D
Good luck!
God bless!
