My husband & I are debating if we should do Whole Milk or Soy Milk. If you have any input it would greatly be appreciated.

They both have positves and negatives. So what is your sight?

If you don't have anything nice to say keep it to your self please.

Well what are your pediatrician's thoughts? He/she may have specific concerns about your child's dietary needs.

If your pediatrician doesn't care then it's totally up to you. I agree that they both have benefits. If you like both products I would use both! If you're using a formula right now I would start with the product that was similar to the formula(soy formula--soy milk, regular formula--cow's milk). Then after a week or so of drinking that introduce the other. If you are breastfeeding I would start with the cow's milk and then introduce the soy.

If you can teach your child to enjoy both types you will be well on your way to making them adventurous about food!

Try not to stress yourself too much about this! No matter what decision you make somebody is going to be nasty about it. So it is important that you and your husband come to a decision you're both comfortable with and support eachother. It will be all right in the end.

Whole Milk. There is a possibility that soy milk, which contains phytoestrogens mayaffect babies adversely . It's not really proven, but there the phytoestrogens in soy, and they do affect humans, so why take the chance if your baby does not have a milk allergy? If you do use whole milk, I recommend organic. It's only a little more expensive and the cows that produce it are not given hormones that may pass into the milk and are fed a natural diet.

Unless the child has an allergy, I would suggest whole milk (and even if the child does have an allergy, I would suggest goat's milk). This is because while soy milk does have a very complete protein, it does not have all of the fatty acids which are important for children to develop.

My baby went on Soy because the pediatrician felt it might help with reflux, but other than that if the baby doesn't get constipated, whole milk is OK.
She is now 15 months and has been drinking whole milk for about 6 months now.

The pediatrician will tell you to go on whole milk after the baby is a year old.

I'm just not really sure if soy milk actually qualifies as "milk". I would just stick to whole milk.

My son was allergic to whole milk, so we are on soy. He was also on Soy based formula, so the type of formula your child is on may be something to consider.

Does your child have an intolerance to lactose? Mine did so we put him on soy milk (doctor's approval). Now that he's three, we're going to start mixing them together to see if he can handle lactose again.

I suggest talking to child's pediatrician
