Art schools pay models about $12-$18 an hour, depending on where it is. It's considered "casual" employment, so there are no benefits. Some individual artists also pay models, and if you look on www.craigslist.org you will see a lot of ads for "TFP" which means the model isn't getting paid, they are trading time for prints (Trade For Prints = TFP). A lot of those ads are very suspect, the "amateur" sleazebags who own a camera and basically just want to stare at a naked girl through a viewfinder. Ew. Stay away from those creeps!

My best friend is a model at our university. She gets paid 12 bucks an hour. The classes are 4 hours each, and she usually only does one each day. In those classes, students usually have the time to finish 2-10 pictures, each in different poses. Although the pay is twice the minimum wage, it's hard work. I challenge anyone to hold perfectly still for an hour, much less naked and in front of a bunch of strangers. My point is that nude models get paid pretty well, but not enough, considering what they do.

Art models usually charge thier own rates.
When employed by a university a hourly rate is agreed upon and a schedule for the number of sessions is set up. In that situation they recieve a paycheck like any other univerisity employee.
Freelance art models might charge session by session, especially if the artist only needs one or two. Example rate: Model charges $30 for a 1/2 hour session, $50 for 1 hour.

Usually it is per hour just like any other job, but sometimes it will be sort of like a trade for an art piece... It all depends on how you want to be paid, you just sort of come to an agreement.
