Is it "Check Engine" or the same thing?
I just had the "Check Engine" light come on in both of my cars one week apart!
In cars 1996 and newer, a hand-held unit can be plugged into a port usually below the steering wheel to tell you the specific problem.
I took my cars to AutoZone. They provide a free service. Turns out it was an emissions leak in one car, and lean mixture in the forward bank of cylinders on the other.

Read your owners manual.
Take it to a garage / mechanic.
Take the bulb out.
Really, the light is telling you that the engine computer has detected a fault in or at one of it's sensors. You may notice a reduction in fuel economy because the computer goes into Fail-safe mode and "pours the fuel to it to get you home".
Get it fixed. Your car will run better.

Take it to the mechanic and have him put it on the computer. Some parts stores will also read the codes for you if you want to fix it yourself. Don't drive too long with the light on.

Spend $70 on an OBDII scanner. It will read and reset codes on any vehicle since 96 and your friends will all think you're a mechanical genius when you read the codes on their cars.
