When i start the car from cold the noise is really bad but as the car warms up its not so bad and when i put my foot on the clutch the noise goes completley,
Also now everytime i brake or slow down theres a load kind of knock from the engine like metal against metal,
And the other day when i was driving i heard a noise from the engine kind of like metal bouncing around as if something had come loose,
The car is a 1996 mitsubishi mirage VIE saloon 1.5 DOHC.

Somebody suggested the engine mounts could be loose, so give the engine a really good shove and see if it rocks at all.
If not I'd say you may well have either a warped thrust bearing (although this normally comes with a whine and not a knock) or much more likely your drive plate is chipped and has a cog or two missing. Unfortunately if you driven the car more than a few miles like this your gearbox is likely to be damaged too.
On a 1996 car I would suggest you place it in a local auction with a very low reserve and just get what you can for it as this will be an expensive job.

If it has got a lot of mileage up, it could be piston slap which tends to reduce when the engine is warm, or a more heavy noise is big end knock, If it sounds like stoned in the engine it is pre-ignition which is not so serious, but it will take an experience ear to listen to it. Do you change the oil regular?

Sounds to me like your starter solenoid is on the fritz, and in the experience that your starter solenoid is integrated interior the starter you will might desire to replace the starter. in the experience that your starter is seen attempt tapping it with the top of a hammer and notice if that is going to initiate. That way you a minimum of won't might desire to get a tow truck. Get a starter at Napa or Kragen for low-priced and then take it on your mechanic and function him stick it on. they are undemanding to alter so which you will possibly desire to even do it your self.

i thought at first it was the hydrolic tappets,it could be the thrust bearing its between the preshure plate and is cliped onto the fork arm what operates the clutch the bearing falls apart and ball bearings start coming out, also if you got a timeing chain and not a timeing belt it could be the tensioner loose.

amid all the prophets of doom, I wonder if you have a bad engine mount or two?Open the bonnet, grab hold of engine....does it move when you push hard? get someone you trust (with your life!) with bonnet open, handbrake on, ask them to put it in first gear, then slowly let up on the clutch...get the noise...does engine move....
