All names and forms are based on your feelings. God has no differences whatsoever. No one can comprehend the nature of Divinity. Actually, the principle of love that exists in all beings is the principle of Divinity. Love has no specific form. Divinity transcends name and form. In fact, all names and forms belong to the same God. He responds to the prayers of devotees in whatever form they worship Him. Hence, each one considers the form he worships to be superior to the other forms. It is a sign of ignorance to consider one form superior to the other. What is important is that your prayers should not be confined to mere words. They should be translated into action. It is easy to speak but not so easy to practise. True prayer is that which is translated into action. - BABA

True prayer is only to the Almighty God, by which ever name people call Him, in various religions, or just God, for people who don't follow any religion but believe in the one and only God, the creator of Universe and all living things.
A true to prayer to God is first a thanks for everything you have; a home, things, food, clothes and money for your needs. And then followed by asking for whatever you wish, something legitimate of course. It could be anything such as; prayer for someone to recover from illness, for a safe journey, to pass in school examinations, to find a job or a better job and so on.
But you can't pray and sit waiting for your prayers to get answered, you have to work towards it yourself, and God will then help you.

Prayer is asking.
True Prayer as apposed to False Prayer? I would say, praying with a pure heart meaning having nothing to hinder spiritual communion.

True prayer as defined in the bible is asking not of yourself but others under God. Translation ... no selfish requests, pray for the good of others, whatever it is but take your thoughts off yourself. If you feel like you need prayer ask someone to pray for you.

1512. The Spiritual Man Prays only for Love of God
"In the highest prayer, men pray only for the love of God, not because they fear Him or Hell, or hope for bounty or heaven... When a man falls in love with a human being, it is impossible for him to keep from mentioning the name of his beloved. How much more difficult is it to keep from mentioning the Name of God when has come to love Him... The spiritual man finds no delight in anything save in commemoration of God."
(Report of 'Abdu'l-Bahá words quoted in Bahá'u'lláh and the New Era, p. 105, Wilmette 1976 ed: The Important of Prayer, Meditation, and the Devotional Attitude -- a Compilation)

Prayer is the elevation of the mind and heart to God:
+ In praise of his glory
+ In petition for some desired good
+ In thanksgiving for a good received
+ In intercession for others before God
Through prayer the Christian experiences a communion with God through Christ in the Church.
"For me, prayer is a surge of the heart; it is a simple look turned toward heaven, it is a cry of recognition and of love, embracing both trial and joy." (St. Thérèse of Lisieux)
"Prayer is the raising of one's mind and heart to God or the requesting of good things from God." (St. John Damascene)
But when we pray, do we speak from the height of our pride and will, or "out of the depths" of a humble and contrite heart? (Psalm 130:1)
He who humbles himself will be exalted; humility is the foundation of prayer. Only when we humbly acknowledge that "we do not know how to pray as we ought," are we ready to receive freely the gift of prayer. "Man is a beggar before God."
With love in Christ.

My belief is that if you love him, are close to him and are a true devotee (Bhakt), you don't need anything else in life. So the only prayer I have always had or will have is " O God, please never ever let me wander away from you. Let me always love you and let me always see your presence in every thing, every action and every thought". Hari Bol.
