Typically, your router has a default address of 192.168.1.1, but not always, depending on how it was installed, and whether or not it is part of the network. Plus, it depends on the interface you're looking at - there's going to be the outside address, the address you get from your ISP, and the inside address, the address it has inside your network. For instance, even though my router is at 192.168.1.1, that is the "inside" address - the outside address is what my ISP assigns me dynamically, and it typically changes (unless you have a static IP address assigned by your ISP).

Anyway, long and short of it, if you get really stuck and don't know what to do, there's usually a hard-reset switch on it where it resets it to factory defaults, which, like I said, will usually put it at 192.168.1.1.

If you happen to have an internet connection, you can click Start -> Run, type cmd and hit okay. This will open a shell prompt. Then you can type:

tracert www.google.com

The first IP address that shows up will be your router's inside address. I'm assuming you don't have connectivity though, or else you probably wouldn't be asking the question. Good luck!

If it shows a login page then it probably is your router's settings portal. You need to know the user + pass to get into it. If nobody has set it, it is set to the default router user/pass, probably in the manual. If you can't find it you can search online. Usually for Linksys routers the default user/pass is user:(none), pass:admin

To find your routers ip address open the command prompt. In windows it is Start>Run type "cmd" in the box and the command prompt opens. From there type "ipconfig" in the command prompt. Your router should be listed as default gateway.

I don't know the name of your router, but they will have an 800 number. Call them and they will talk you through this. And while you have them on the phone, have them help you set up WPA security. Don't get left with WEP, that's generic and anyone can get into it.

start->run->type cmd then ok
then type ipconfig
then write down the gateway address(your router ip)

then ping your gateway to make sure connection is ok
start->run->type cmd then ok
then type "ping your gateway ip"
i.e ping 192.168.0.1

if you see distention unreadable then chick the cable
if ping successful then
then write it down in address bar
then you can log in..
