I'm a genuine person who tries to give honest answers and I've already got a thumbs down :-( for a reasonable answer.
Is this the norm for Yahoo answers or should I just give it a miss altogether ?

I've recently got to level 2 and now I am able to vote on answers and questions. I have not given that mainly thumbs down but I wouldn't worry too much if you get a few. It's bound to happen. Not everyone will agree with your views but whether that is worthy of a thumbs down or not, only they can decide I guess.
The points are only a bit of fun and there is nothing to be gained from it a part from the pleasure of reaching the next level so I wouldn't get too down by it all. Just enjoy it and carry on doing what you're doing. I gave your question a thumbs up :-)

The thumbs down usually means someone does not agree with your opinion or like your question. The opposite is true obviously for the thumbs up. For example I thumbs up a question if I think someone has already answered the question with the same response as I would have given. Don't take it personally.
And some people also just like the power

Don't expect thumbs down all the time. Here's the problem: There are over a thousand Yahoo! users. With that said, you might offend over 50 with just one answer or question. Here's my secret: Give the answer you know the person will like...lol. I know that sounds mean, but we're in it to earn points and get to the next level. I'm not saying to bomb every answer, answer truthfully, but make sure you're never disappointing the asker.

no thumbs down for me the folk who're fresh the website to checkif somebody new put in an answer just to be sure all human beings gets a thumbs down are lame! *seems around* =P

Some people give thumbs down for everything. I try to give thumbs up or just leave it unless somebody's being particularly offensive. Forget about it and just enjoy.

If you think your answers are okay just ignore the thumbs down. Everyone has different opinions not everyone will be giving you them. If everyone didn't have different opinions Yahoo Answers would be rubbish.

There are some people on here that just like giving the thumbs down, don't worry about them sweetie. I think they just get off on the idea that they are being naughty. Keep answering and enjoy.

no, don't take everything on here so seriously. you have people who will give great honest answers and then you have the "nuts"

I've gotten thumbs down for reasonable answer answers, too. When you don't tell people what they want to hear, THEY are the unreasonable ones. Hang in!
