i assume you mean on a car.
services are a bit of a con as you are buying into a package some of which you can easily do yourself.ask the garage for a breakdown of what they will be doing for the service and see for yourself what you can do yourself.do what you can then ask them to do what you can't but then dont ask them for a service just ask them to do specific things.
for example,you can change the water in the screen wash,you can see if the tyres need renewing,you can see if the wiper blades are deteriorating,you can see if the seat belts work,you can see if the lights work they check stupid things like this and charge you for them.you can oil the door locks.maybe ask them to change filters and oil filter and oil and check brakes,although any tyre place will check brakes for free but beware of them cos they will say they need doing when they dont.these places will also check antifreeze for free and other things.they do tend to prey on women so send a guy with your car or go with a guy.good luck
