Yes, in fact I believe they do. All US Citizens should have the right to vote.....I don't know an answer for the Congress issue, but our vets and service men and women should especially have the right. We salute you for serving our country. My family keeps all our armed forces men and women (serving now and years past) in our prayers and we are duly grateful. THANK YOU!

Mate, if it's true - get lobbying!!
Anyone who can be a citizen deserves to be able to vote without any such c**p left over from the old days.
Wonder if that act applies to Jews? Or Hispanics? Or Asians?
We have a different problem in New Zealand. Every election (but not annually) at least one party brings up abolishing "Maori Seats", those just for the descendants of the people here before the 'white' man came. And there are complaints that the option for 'Maori' to choose whether to be on the 'General' or 'Maori' Roll only comes up every six years. But there's no doubt as citizens they have the automatic right to vote, somewhere!!
Get lobbying, I repeat, if that is true!

What on earth does your service record and your war wounds have to do with the voting rights of blacks? Do you think that black veterans deserve the vote more than black non-veterans?
The Voting Rights Act, passed in 1965, has a kind of sunset clause which presumes that the Act won't always be needed and hence if Congress ever does decide that it isn't needed any more, it won't be "renewed."
The need for the VRA is dependent upon the theory that the white majority in some states and localities might try to systematically disenfranchise blacks if taken off the leash that the VRA has them on.

Yes. Every citizen, regardless of color, has the right to vote. I think the Voting Rights Act should be removed b/c its only for blacks. We, as a nation, should not live in the past.

Here in Australia we have the same inflammatory black v white debate. Of course all people have the right to vote, the difference is that, here it is mandatory to vote for all citizens. Maybe if Americans exercised their right to vote or it became compulsory then you would all stop bitching about what you don't have, and do something about it. Have a voice !!!

"Blacks"? You're bait for all these idiots on Yahoo right now. May want to think about rephrasing your question. I'm unaware of any such thing, but I wouldn't doubt it. Please post a link I can research. I'm a lot like Huey Newton, except my weapon is my computer and persistence.
In response to the answer above, the civil rights act came in 1965 or 1967. Not 1865
In resposne to the answer below, I think this can of worms shouldn't have been opened and "certain" people never learn. War is the only thing they understand.

Of course blacks and every other person deserves the right to vote without question. I don't know if the rule you are talking about but if its there it needs to be thrown out.
Personally, I think its more political scare tactics. Do the research and you'll know if its true and also who to vote against because they are liars.

All blacks have the right to vote and have had the right to vote since 1865. the civil rights act that you are referring to means you get to vote in peace without harassment. It's a piece of paper that gets signed and photo's get taken and aren't all pretty politicians wonderful. It means jack.
