There are two possible reasons for that.
1. It might be caused by your behavior or body language.
2. It might be that cat badly behaved or not used to strangers.

do you stare at the cat? direct eye contact is an indicator of aggression. it means to the cat 'hey i can take you and if you try anything i will!', what about sents? do you have a particular odor? how about medications? there sense of smell is many times better then yours, and if you produce a high level of testosterone you could frighten them off. some medications release by products into sweat that humans can't even smell, some cats might find them offensive (or even like it, some cats ENJOY sweat smell, hence the nose in shoes and nose in sock thing some do) what about body language? slumpt over slightly hunched forward mimicks the 'ready to pounce' possition cats take. how about straight and tall? are you very tall? remember to a cat your HUGE, easilly break there bones with a careless step. how about your actions? do you take sudden fast motions? what about loud noises? how do you know ALL cats hiss at you? what about the ones you didn't notice while you where being quite and relaxed? does being around a cat change your body language and posture?

there are so many variables here its crazy.
best advice. ignore the cat. stay relaxed. don't move fast or make loud noises. and do NOT raise your body above theres. comeing low with hand outstretched and simply waiting has allowed me to pet many an animal....even if i am waiting to yank my hand back before i lose a finger...

Sometimes cats hiss at people who are hyper acting and loud. If you walk around the room slowly and don't move quickly or talk really loud, the cat will not be alarmed. Some people just bust into a room and talk at the top of their lungs, and the poor cat just freaks out.

It is the energy they get from you. It is like woman with their instincts, sometimes they get a vibe they dont like so they dont do that task or go through that path. It is the same with animals too.
Animal instincts are stronger than us, because they depend on that for survival. You probably are scared of cat, that gave you a scent that the cat does not like and feels threatened, maybe you tried to hold the cat but you were not ok with it yourself.
If you notice dogs are ok even with their owners, but sometimes dogs bight their owner or people who are scared of them. It is a vibe they feel that they dont like and akie them uncomfortable.
so cats are not evil, its probably the cat has a bad memory of you, or you give the wrong vibe.

Animals pick up on your 'vibes' (pheromones as well by the way).

If you are scared or whatever.... you will put out that scent/ feeling/ pheromone.... and they can pick it up.

Better question might be;
"What are you doing/ thinking/ feeling towards these cats that they don't like you for it?"

You may have bad spirits that tag along with you. Cats are very sensitive to that stuff. Talk with someone who is sensitive.

Yes, cats always hiss at you because cats suck. They are mean-spirited, unloving, self-centered creatures. No offense to cats, b/c they are just animals being animals, but people who own cats are severly delusional and needy and thrive on abusive relationships.
