I think getting Pettite was a good move but was getting rid of Johnson and picking up some no-names and some Asian pitchers really a good move?

No because pettite won't be in the bullpen. They still have a bunch of mediocre releivers.

Well the million dollar question have been asked or should we say the various million dollar question. Is simple getting rid of Johnson is good cause he ain't throwing like he was back in 00' and 01'. Getting young blood is always good they are the future of the sports if they give them the experience they come through with the expectations. Asian pitchers are u kidding didn't u watch Chien Ming Wang last year the best pitcher in whole bullpen of the yankees even better than the unit itself, and by the way Japan won the Baseball classic over the supposively high power bullpen of the USA dream team. Let face it Asia is producing some of the best pitchers in baseball right now.

Yes a very good move! We don't need these so called all star flops,Cashman saw a chance to reduce payroll and get younger
Cashman has sought to stockpile young pitching and has now added six pitching prospects this offseason in trading away Johnson,Gary Sheffield and Jeret Wright,Those three deals shaved $36 mil from the payroll, the yanks have added some back
by signing pettitte, for 16 mil and Kei Igawa for 4 mil next season
Plus Espn said cashman stokedpiled enough pitching, for bargining chips in july trading deadline,This guy Ross Ohlendorf that we got beat Verlander last seasons AL rookie of the yr,this was the key player the yanks wanted form Arizona,This guys ahorse, his size 6-4 230 pounds age 25,,,Last season he was
10-8 with a 3.29 era at double-A Tennessee and 0-0 with a 1.28 ERA at triple A tucson
Career-23-21,,,3.76 era in three pro seasons
The yanks belive his hard sinker can help him develop into a potential rotation anchor, The CASHMAN IS A GENIUS!!

That depends on three factors and three factors only.

1. Jim Leyland's perceptions of the Yankees bullpen in very early July

2. The various and sundry guidelines about filling an All Star roster

3. Joe Torre's input about his bullpen when Leyland calls in early July

It's still another 40 days before pitchers and catchers begin to report. GIve it a chance and remeber that there are 30 MLB teams, not one.

judging from the recent trades, the yankees are planning on developing some young arms, naturally some, if not most of these young pitchers will spend some time in the bullpen. middle relief is the weak spot on any mlb team and is therefore a perfect situation in which to develop young pitchers. as long as the yankees have mariano and a couple of veteran specialists in their bullpen they should be one of the better pens in the league.

I didn't hear that Pettitte was going to the bullpen. Are you sure about that? He's been a very effective starter. He was always my best bet when he was with the Yanks the first time.

I think middle relief has been a definite weakness for the Yankees. Maybe the "no-names and Asians" are going to fill that gap. Pitching wins ballgames, always has, always will.

Still an All-Star bullpen? First of all, they never have been an All-Star bullpen!!! Only All-Star in the B-pen is Mariano River. You think Kyle Farnsworth is an All-Star???!!! LoL!!! Ask Tiger fans what they thought of him before he left Detroit. The "All-Star" caliber pitchers you are refering to must be Pettite, Mussina, and Wang who are in the STARTING ROTATION and NOT the BULLPEN.

I am a little confused by some of the answers. u asked for bullpen not Staring pitchers. the bullpen will be alright but they have an explosive offense so they dont have to be perfect.

The Yankees are building their bullpen to look like '98

I think all of the minor leaguers they have picked up is great. Great young prospects, for aging players. Smart, smart, smart!

Nobody is afraid of the yankee bullpen. Mariano is the only repectable one, but hes getting older and is known to choke against the mets and sox. The rotation is ok, but not dominating.
