I'm hoping to get a Ball Python soon, and rather than having to house live mice as well, I'd rather stick to pre-killed ones, but I have no idea where I would buy them.

Just buy them live and let your Python have some fun.

Petsmart and petco both carry them-but I have had bad luck with the ones from Petco lately. (They are so nasty when thawed it makes me want to puke). I've been buying them live from a local store, not a chain, and killing them myself before feeding.

You just put the mouse in a plastic bag and swing the bag hard up against the wall-it's over in an instant for the mouse, the snake is safe and no more wasted money on spoiled food.

Don't put a live mouse in the cage with your Ball Python-mice can badly damage snakes, and while a Ball can dispatch a mouse pretty quickly, a young, inexperienced snake may take longer to kill the mouse. My method is better for everyone concerned.

As for the "frozen is more humane to the mouse" why would you say that? Do you think they were BORN in those plastic bags.

This is a website that sells frozen mice. They are humanely killed in that CO2 is used to put the mice into a coma and then they die in their sleep. The bodies are then frozen and shipped. They have excellent reviews and were highly recommended.

As for pre-killed mice, you will have to either thaw out frozen mice in warm to hot water (which isn't difficult) and feed that to your snake, or buy a live mouse from the pet store and kill it yourself. The idea of putting a mouse in a bag and slamming it into a hard surface works most of the time. Sometimes the mouse just needs to be stunned or incapacitated--not necessarily killed. It is best to give dead prey though.

Hope this helps.

Both Petsmart and Petco sell pre-killed mice. You can also buy them online. They come frozen so you will need to thaw them in warm water.

Buy a litter of baby mice. Grow them to adulthood, give one live one to your Python as a treat and then chuck the rest in the freezer.

I use Rodentpro.com for all my orders (about 200 dollars every 5 months) they have great prices, very healthy rodents, and they deliver to your door. It's best to buy in bulk, as they ship in 50 lb boxes that have standard shipping regardless of how much of a box you fill. Invest in a chest freezer, you'll have that ball for 20+ years.
