That's actually overkill for a beginner; a 60th anniversary Fender Strat is a professional grade guitar. Unless the beginner in question is totally committed, you run the risk of getting a top of the line guitar for someone who may not follow through on the instrument.

That said, if they stick with it, they'll never need to upgrade!

it's a good guitar, but do you really want to spend that kind of dough on a guitar that you don't know how to play??? a better bet might be to pick up a used electric (www.craigslist.org) or get a mexican fender strat or maybe an epiphone.

Any guitar that tunes good is good for a beginner. Practicing is a more important issue.

Yes, it even has noise-cancelling pickups, unlike many other cheaper Strats.
