NO, you acted in a good way. At that age I used to do things to try to shock my mum but she always gave me positive feedback which meant that in the end i gave up and didn't do anything extreme because nothing could shock the woman! At the end of the day if she is old enough to earn the money to pay for it, she is old enough to do it. Just be thankful she isn't spending the money on drugs and feels she can tell you these things and has an open communicative relationship with you

You did just fine. Be grateful she feels as though she can talk to you about pretty much anything judging from this question.
BTW, my daughter pulled the same thing and also had a tattoo. I had the same reaction.
Fortunately, there was no infection afterwords. That was my only concern.

I'm more curious as to why you should wish to consult others about what your reaction should or should not be. Do you think that convention regarding being a parent suggests that you should have flipped.
Sounds like you and your daughter have a good relationship, good one

I would have done exactly the same thing, it is hard when our kids become teenagers, they are very rebelious towards us, im afraid its all part of growing up, they often just see us parents as interfering old busy bodies, and dont recognise us as being caring for their well being, you just have to try and talk to them as your friend, and not let them think that we are just authority figures to tell them what to do, it is hard, i know i have a teenage daughter that thinks im just out to get her, i think you just have to show your love as much as poss

Good on you for your reaction as you say she is seventeen and knows her own body. Be glad she told you, she may have been frightened to say anything, and please if she does get an infection be there for her. she will respect you for it, you sound very close keep up the good work. Always be there for her.

She a young woman now, old enough to make her own decisions. I certainly didn't tell my mother when I got my tattoos or my vch piercing so a least she's comfortable enough with you to tell you about it. I think you reacted perfectly.

You did fine. What she does with her body is her deal now (or will be in a number of months). If she was looking to shock you, then maybe you should let her know that you don't agree with it but you understand that is what she wants to do.
In all, she needs to know that whatever she does you will still love and support her.

Good on you, you sound like a cool mum. She didn't have to tell you but obviously knew you were going to be OK. Maybe she wanted to shock you but you probably shocked her by asking if she was OK and not freaking out.

No, I like your reaction, it shows respect to your daughter as a different person from yourself, with different likes, etc.

No I think your reaction was great!!! if you had ranted and raved it would have caused friction between you both. There was nothing you could do about it so just go with the flow.
