You need to research DOS commands. (There are way too many instructions to go into here.) But, you are correct. You can delete your entire browsing history and the .dat files embedded in windows will continue to store most site hits and e-mails that are sent and received. (That's how the police find that incriminating evidence on criminal's computers.) It can be done but it is time consuming.

If you are using Internet Explorer its this

Tools > Click* Internet Options. Click on Clear Browsing History.

If you are using Mozilla Firefox it's Tools > Click* Options. Click the Privacy tab and click Clear Now under the History Section.

Well, it's actually stored in a hidden place on your hard drive. You could do this:

1) Go to My Computer
2) Right-click your hard drive and hit properties
3) Then click on Disk Clean-up.
4) Wait for the thing to search your hard drive for stuff it can erase thats not needed.
5) When it gives you a list, select the temporary internet files checkbox and then click OK.

Note: When the disk clean-up is searching, it might take a few minutes.

Good luck!

on any internet window menu bar.. select "tools", > then select "delete browsing history" > then select ("delete cookies" / "delete history" / "delete temporary internet files") this actually allows to delete all the history of sites you went into, files & information stored on your computer by websites. instead of deleting them one by one on internet options. these should help!
