I've been using them for more than 10 years & I personally can't find any disadvantages to owning one. I can't see ever giving up the freedom of being able to make a call I need to make from where ever I need to make it. Pay phones are DISGUSTING! And good luck trying to find one that works when you need one. I just let an old lady use my phone a couple of days ago. She needed to call her daughter to pick her up & none of the pay phones in the area were working. I've also had family emergencies, & if I didn't have a cell so I could be contacted immediately things would have been much worse.

If you don't own one already I'll give you this advice. Figure out where you'll use the phone, certain carriers have better coverage in certain areas. So, if you travel allot you'll need a different carrier than if you stay close to home (you can always ask people on answers how they like the service in whatever area you need to now about). Get a big minute plan to start with. You can pair it down if you don't use them, but underestimating will hurt your wallet big time (nobody wants a $200 cell phone bill). And if you tend to loose and/or drop things, get insurance on your phone. You can always get rid of it later, but you can't add it after you've had your phone for a while. I hope this info helps!

I Work for TMobile So Im partial i suppose. But for me, the Cell phone is my life-line. Ive never had a home phone, at least not since living with my parents. The advantages are many. First among them is safety - the FIRST time your car breaks down in the middle of nowhere, or on a dark highway, and you have help on its way in minutes, any payments you have to make for the cell are well worth it. Beyond that, its very nice to never HAVE to miss a call. People have this misconception that you "always have to be connected" by your cell and can never get away. But thats not true. I reject more calls per day than i answer. another great reason is the wealth of other uses that cell phones today have. For instance, last year i was in a fender bender. I was able to immediately snap a picture of my, and the other party's car. And, of course, when the other party tried to claim more damage to my insurance company than i did, it came in VERY handy. Beyond that, most of the reasons are personal. I like to have all my photos on mine. I have hundreds. I show people my kittens, my family members, babies, just as you would a paper scrap book. in 20 years there will be no landline phone service, it really is that simple. In many parts of Africa, people now have cell phones who have never even seen a landline. Safely, convenience, and of course, FUN!! I hope this helps! Please choose best answer if you think mine was!

Advantages is being able to contact anybody when you need/want to.

I see no disadvantages 'cos you can always switch it off if you don't want to be disturbed but it will keep a record of who tried to contact you and when.

I live in Cumbria and mobiles have saved SO many lives of the brain dead morons who went Fell Walking in khaki shorts and sandals when the weather forecast (that they didn't listen to) said gales and hail with the possibility of snow!

Also safeguarded the lives of many of the Mountain Rescue volunteers I suspect...

a mobile phone like a cell phone? or a cordless phone for your home?

For cell phones, The only con is having to pay for it, and they don't have service in all alreas.

The pro's are they are good if you get into a car accident..or for other emerngecies like that while you are out and about.. Or if someone went to the store and you forgot to ask them to get milk or something you can just call them..
