It is the perennial "little guy taking on the big guy and winning".

For those of you who think this is an American thing you are oh-so-wrong..... This is a HUMAN thing...

American culture, just like any other culture (except for the French; they are just too screwed up for words.....) THRIVES on success. What better success than the one person who was not supposed to win?


The 'Spy thing"..??
Cool gadgets
Lots of money
World wide travel paid for by someone else
Best hotels and most expensive suits
No-holds barred access to the hottest clubs and bars
Sanction to take out whoever irritates you
HOT members of the opposite sex pressed up close to you

James Bond comes in wearing a tux, screws the hottest chicks in town and kills. Then he leaves with the spoils.


American "heroes" smell bad, wear gun-freak attire, shoot everyone at will, drop bombs and supposedly save the world.

haha! james has a worldwide appeal. Most of its box office revenue comes from outside the US. anyway, his appeal is his style and ability to eradicate the BAD guys.

I agree with the sock above me. What 'Mericans like is that it is one person taking on the whole world and winning. See also Rambo and Arnie, and the sherrif in high noon.
