CCTV surveillance systems play an important role in fighting and preventing local and international crime. These closed circuit television systems were in place in London before the July 7th bombings and footages can be used to identify suspects and investigate the attacks.
Besides fighting terrorism, CCTV security systems installed in public places or retail markets can deter crime, provide the police with leads, help citizens feel safer, and improve the economy of a crime-stricken area. Most CCTV systems have now gone digital for improved performance, surveillance camera maneuverability, and quicker feedback as compared to analog systems.

Our crime rate is pretty good compared to some countries.
Although part of the reason for all our crime is the ammount of people living in Britain, short/no prison sentences in jails (with sky tv and ps2) doing little to deter criminals.
I have done many crimes in the past and I admit I had no worries about going to prison. Our jails are full so its either a let off with a small fine or an early release.
Hey even life sentences are usually 25 years max. Even murderers don't have too much to worry about these days.
You can catch all the crimes you want on cctv but the criminals don't really care.

They usually catch the person/people who commit crimes on CCTV.
However the justice system in this country is an absolute JOKE! The prisons are overcrowded so most people are given extremely lenient sentences (a few hours community service) or just let off completely.
In my opinion people who commit serious crimes i.e murder or assault should be lined against a wall and shot!!
