When I went through University, I looked into Animal Biology as a major. I found a few things that I liked and a few things that I didn't:

Pros
1) Animal biology is interesting and challenging.

Cons:
1) Animal biologists lifestyle can be (but is not necessarily) isolated, lonely and monotonous
2) Get ready to beg for grants for the rest of your life
3) Finding good jobs in animal biology is extremely difficult.
4) Chicks don't dig animal biologist
5) Animal biology is a hard science. Get ready to do lots of serious sciences. For me, I'd rather go do a major that actually makes serious money (e.g. molecular cell biology for genetics, organic chemistry for petro engineering) if I'm going to have to slog through four years of weeder science/math classes. But those are my values.

Do yourself a favor and go do informational interviews with people who have jobs that you want. Find the job you want and go study for it, rather than study and then see what you can get with it.
