Find a girl who likes you that is a REALLY good dancer. No matter how bad a dancer you are, she will make you look good.

be yourself, but if you want, follow this tips:

1st.- be confident.
2nd.- hear the music, and move your body at the rhythm, if you cant follow the rhythm, just watch the others.
3rd.- don´t make steps you don't know.

then, if u got some steps and fell the music, look for someone to dance with.

1st.- watch how she or he moves, if u take a look, u can notice if that person know how to dance or not.
2nd.- now that you find your dance partner, enjoy the party, if she or he doesnt know how to dance, that can be a subject to talk about, and try to learn together, may be you got more than just a partner to dance, good luck.

it doesn't really matter..don't think of it as a dance, think of it as a party. Mostly the girls just rock their hips back and forth with the beat in little circles of people. The guys...they just do whatever. Sometimes people jump up and down during certain songs with the punk or peace sign on their hand in the air. If you think about how you look or if your dancing "the right way" it ruins the fun...trust me. scream, dance, take advantage of the refreshments and just have fun with your friends. If you're slow dancing, the guy usually puts his hands on the girls waist and the girls puts her hands on his shoulders, then you rock back and fourth.
