It's be kinda weird being around someone else's child esp. when you no longer have a connection to that person and you are not the father. But I think for the sake of the child, if you were close with him/her I would at least take them to a sporting event or perhaps send a birthday card just to give them a a friend/role model esp. if my ex was a bad parent. You wouldn't be a jerk though for walking away and not looking back.

Depends on the depth of the relationship with the child when the breakup occurs.

Hi both me and my husband were married before and have children from the previous marriages we came as a package and it is natural as both children are a part of us .If we ever broke up i would see his son and remain in contact as would my husband with my boy as it is not the childrens fault that a realtionship has broken down .Children are too often victims of breakups and why should the child be forgot about?

Of course! Kids are kids, and they can't always take care of themselves. Break-up or not, I'd take full responsibility. Maybe that's not my place, but I would. That's just the kinda person I am. I've always loved kids...always, and I'd enjoy taking care of one no matter what.

probably not.Unless the mother did'nt stand in the way of me being their for that kid.If the mother chooses to alienate me and does'nt want me near her kid then I guess thats a no brainer. Its emotionally tough in those situations I know, but believe me when I say its difficult to be a father when you have no "real" rights as one.

i do, and i am. i cant see taking something out on the kids that isn't their fault. just because their father is a dumb a$$ doesn't mean they don't deserve my love :)

That would depend on the wishes of the parent, not yours.
