I have a Nokia 7260 from Indonesia and want to use it in US/Canada.... HELP!?

I was given my Nokia 7260 in Indonesia and used it there with no probs as well as in S. America too. But now want to use it in the US and Canada and apparently it's locked and I've been told i need to contact the store where it was purchased from to get the code to unlock it from (but I can't since it was a gift from someone whom I've lost contact with). Not to mention that it uses as sim card - what companies use sim cards in N. America? What can I do? I love this phone and want to use it - ANYONE?!?!??!?!??!? HELP ME PLEASE!

You should be able to use your SIM that you have now as long as that carrier has roaming agreements with North American carriers, although I'm sure the rate would be expensive.

Luckily, your 7260 can be unlocked for free, using the IMEI and name of the original service provider and this program:

Install the program on your computer, run it and go into options, tick the box for expert mode. Set the boxes in the main program to the following:
Nokia
DCT4 (expert only)
--Type in your IMEI from your phone, you can get this by pressing *#06# on your handset
Indonesia
--Select the original service provider from the drop down list.
--MCC+MNC will appear automatically when selecting the service provider
Asic 2
Original - 32779 (will auto appear when selecting Original)

Now click Calculate. In the window on the right you will see many codes. Try the first one first. It will look like this:
#pw+123456789012345+1#

To make the letter P on your phone, press the * key 3 times, and to make the letter W, press the * key 4 times. To make the + sign, press the * key twice.

If the first code does not work, try the 7th code next.

Companies that use SIM cards in N. America, most popular in US would be Cingular, followed by T-Mobile. In Canada, most popular Rogers, followed by Fido.
