At first he was fine. Eating and sucking on the glass. Then one day I found him laying on his back on the bottom so I thought he was dead. But he wasn't. He swam on his side like he was dizzy and landed on his back again. For over a week now, he's been like that although he doesn't move at all. The gold fish (2) swim by him and he just floats wherever they push him. But his mouth is still sucking all the time. How often are you supposed to add fresh water? I don't think we have in over 6 months but the fish seem fine.

The water is crystal clear, just algae on the plants and some fish ornaments.

Since you say you have goldfish and have not changed the water lately he is probably having serious issues with ammonia. First thing to do is test the water. I assume this is a plecostomus and they can be PH sensitive too. Regular water changes [ weekly or so] are important for good water quality. Goldfish put off a lot more ammonia than other fish also. Test first...then water change until good water quality is achieved.

Take out the ornaments, I don't care how safe they say the are, or from what company they are from, they will poison your fish sooner or later.

If you haven't properly maintained your tank the water is there is already very toxic, but the fish living in that enviroment have grown accustom. Do a 30% water change, be sure to treat the new water. While doing this do a REALLy good vacumn of the gravel too. Feed your tank on fresh veggies for a few days, zuccini, lettuce, peas and cooked rice. This will help if the problem is over feeding.

Also, did you get a cold water species? If not, he's just dying because the water is too cold for him. Few things are compatible to live with goldfish from the pH and KH to the temperature.

Good luck.

Some fresh water from citys have chlorine in it. You can buy anti-chlorine drops from a fish or pet store. That was the problem with my fish.
