Yes, I believe that richer communities read more, as they are likely to be better educated.

I think the communities with better access to books will be reading a broader spectrum of literature than those who don't have that access, or are not encouraged to read. Often leaders of community reading (teachers, reading clubs, etc.) must choose literature that they like, so personal preference would have something to do with it too.

That said, I am a big reader, and a few people that I grew up with and still keep in touch with, who had the same education as me, hardly pick up a novel. Again, personal preference I suppose.

The middle class are the people who read--because they aspire.
The lower class, or working class, read less, for various reasons: education mainly, and the way they've been raised.
The rich, or upper class, tend not to read, because they have nothing to aspire to.
Their time is better spent doing other things.
