You are missing the point. Angels would not be angelic if they did not have sex because they COULD NOT have sex. What makes them angels (in part) is that, even though they are all (male as well as female angels) really HOTT, they don't want each other (or other beings) in a sexual way. They have evolved to a level of spirituality where they don't need orgasms to feel bliss. Therefore, male angels have pensises and female angels have breasts, wombs, clitorises, etc. Of course, whether female angels exist is a vexed question. On the other hand, an angel is supposedly made out of material that is incredibly flexible yet totally indestructible. Hence, it is theoretically possible, according to the bylaws of the angel community as well as the physical and spiritual laws governing the production and existence of angels, that any angel can be of any sex or sexless at any time.

OK, here we go. Not sure if there is a whole P-Nis envy thing going on here, but many statues were created in the Classic Greco-Roman style and since angels were considered to be from the Divine and made also in God's image as was Man, then it makes sense that most artisans of the Renaissance carved sculptures in this manner.
And quite frankly, I like my boys and would love it if someone would carve my twig and berries into stone for all posterity!
Enjoy the madness..

Well, speaking from a Christian poit of view (that is where angels come from anyway) we should say that Angels are not anything like humans. There are no girl angels and boy angels. They have no sex. Still, when they appeared to people, in visions or anything like that, they took the form of people in order for us to relate to them. And really, angels are not portrayed as being naked. Only in Michelangelo, the Sixteen Chapel, before they painted clothes over them.

Most of those really aren't angels they are more like deities more Roman and Greek, not very Christian to me. Christians always have some thing against genitalia. Cupid isn't really an angel or seem to be past puberty but he's always shown with a penis.

There are all sorts of reasons for this, historically, in art. For example, many times it is a comination of time periods, such as those in antiquity and the Early Renaissance that you'd see that. Also, how do you define Angel? Cupid is not an angel. Of all the angels I've seen, none are nude. Saints, maybe, but not any I can think of. Just because they have wings, that doesn't make them angels.

It's only because of author's imagination. It's hard to understand something, which is so different, that is why the artists always give them the human shape.
And about little angels(children or sometimest busts of the children), they are called putta, and they have only decorative function, not real mening as an angel.
But sometimes little angels DO have a sex, when they represent the souls of dead kids.

Just because someone has genitalia, doesn't mean that they're going to use it.
Simply, it's just the artists' interpretation of what he/she feels an angel will look like, or something that the artist feels will evoke some type of emotion when viewed.
Humans have consistently tried to humanize what we don't understand, inanimate objects, etc...

Angels are human form, so, the male angels have a penis, naturally.
The female angles have all the human parts as well.

I believe it is the only way for the artist to comprehend Angels. They are supposed to be like humans, but in the bible it is said they were created for one purpose, to serve. They weren't built like us, they have no need to reproduce, it is only in the way the artists see them.

Well, where do you want the water to come out? Their nipples? Their ears? A wee winky makes sense.
