my neice is 14 and she say she can get a job i think this wierd and not safe is it true you can get a job at 14 and also she lives in overland park, kansas

I don't know about Kansas laws, but most of the time, anyone under 16 would need to get a work permit, before they can find a job at a legitimate company.

Where I'm at, these are provided by the schools, based on the fact that the student's grades are at an appropriate level.

It's not weird at all. I can only commend your neice for wanting to be a contributing memeber of society.

The only reason it would be unsafe, is if it's an unsafe job even for adults, and most of the time, the companies wouldn't hire someone so young for something like that.

I live in Michigan and I had my first job at 14. I was employed by the local lumber yard. Granted I did need to get a work permit but I was employed at 14.

I am in Ohio, and nope.. 14 will not get hired. But she might be talking about babysitting. Here, you can be 15, but most jobs will not hire that age, unless coming with a good recommendation.
