Horses are extremely social animals and they rely on their herd mates for safety, protection and socialization. Left to be alone for extended periods, horses can become very depressed and psychologically unsound. My first suggestion is to get another horse if you have enough room. Equine rescue groups often have horses for free that can no longer be ridden but still need good homes. They make great pasture buddies. A pony is another suggestion since they are more economical. If you absolutely cannot get another horse, try a mule, donkey or goat. They are all good companions and your horse will thank you for getting him one. Finally, if getting a companion is totally out of the question, at least buy him some toys. They make all kinds of horse balls and such to keep them somewhat entertained. Just remember, the novelty soon wears off with these and then you are back to square one. Hope this helps.

You could get a companian animal like a Goat. Some dogs make great horse buddies as well, and barn cats. But goats or small donkeys are probably best.
Or invest in some kind of toy. Large Rubber Balls work well and horses love them. You can buy them at most any supply store for horses and farm equipment.

He really needs a companion-if you cannot afford another horse-donkeys and goats are easy keepers. You might consider boarding him with other horses. At the very least try some of the toys for horses out there like the Lik-it treat dispenser or Jolly ball.BUt I would really recommend a companion animal-he is a herd animal after all...

Mine loved her "jolly ball" it lasts forever, buy at feed store. Hang it.
Lots of people float a rubber toy in the water barrel. They can bob for that.
I tied empty milk jugs or juice jugs on the side rail, They'll flip them over and back. And chew on them a little
You can buy orange cones to put in their corral. They will pick them up with their mouths and move them around.
But truly, He needs a goat buddy.
Why not see if a bulletin at the feed store will lead you to a girl/boy that will come over after school and groom him or learn to lunge him? Most horse lovers that don't have one will do it for free or a very small sum.

Ummm....maybe ride it! No, try and find toys he likes, balls, tie something to a pole so he can play with it like tether ball. Have you tried to find a community pasture inyour area you can move him to from time to time? Neighbours that have horses, are you sure he's bored, maybe he likes the freedom? Younger horses need a lot of stimulation, finding other animals for him maybe the best thing, just a thought. G'luck!

They do have some stall devices if he's stuck indoors. The best option would be to have him turned out in a pasture all the time--preferably with some sort of buddy. I know horses who seem to be happy with goats for friends. You might also get one to keep in the stall with him, but that might be cramped...
