For hard core gaming you should go for Ge-force 8800 gtx. They are Very Nice but on the down side very pricey(over $300) I my machine I got a Ge-force 6800 gt and I got nice results with current games and you can find it for around $100 -$160. I would suggest a Ge-force card 7 or 8 series. ATI card are nice but they lack in the best support in Open GL. Stay away from their Allin-wonder cards because I Know some people who hated them after they got it because it gave them problems and didn't work right.
Windows Vista™ is the first Windows operating system that directly utilizes the power of a dedicated GPU (graphics processing unit). NVIDIA® GeForce® GPUs are essential for accelerating the Windows Vista experience by offering an enriched 3D user interface, increased productivity, vibrant photos, smooth, high-definition videos, and realistic games. -qouted from nvidia's website.

the six hundred version of the nvidia enjoying cards is often designed for enterprise environments. sure, the cardboard will run vista nice.(with a minimum of 2gigs of ram) for gaming besides the shown fact that, get a 9800 or 8800. i think the 8800 > the 9600 for gaming. sure the version between the six hundred and the 800 version of the enjoying cards is noticeably massive for the money.
