It's fine. Letting her read fanfiction exposes her to different veiwpoints and ideas. Not to mention different levels of writing ability.
Just keep her away from the mature ones.

It is completely okay to read. I started reading fanfiction when I was 11 and I absolutely loved it. I think she would really like it too. I think this way she will get opened to new ideas and maybe post a story of her own. It's a really good way to get into writing as well. That's how I got started in writing was by fanfiction. =)

It's ok. I loved reading fanfiction when I was younger. Fanfiction.net is the best one, she can write her own and read fanfiction from movies, tv shows, games, anime and more. It's a great site and most stories are marked and rated. Authors usually include conent advisories. There isn't any sexual content allowed (no sexual situations etc.) I've read mostly game fanfiction and anime, the only thing I saw there was yaoi (guy couples) some cussing etc.

Sure! I started reading fanfiction when I was 10 years old. I started writing stories when I was 12 and up till now. I wrote thousands of words at that age. It's not dumb, it can improve her reading and writing skills. Just don't watch her read the 'M' rated stories.
It's a good experience too, you get to discover new ideas from variety of people's. It's a good hobby for your 12 year old to do. Don't think otherwise.

It depends entirely on the content, and on what rules and limits you, as the parent, set for the child you love and want to protect. You know what your child is capable of handling, in terms of sex, violence or other adult themes, and you also have a pretty good idea of how much and how fast your child is able to absorb. None of us can push the maturing process faster than it will go by nature.
It would probably be best to check out what she reads, either before she reads it, or at least while she is getting into it. That way you can head off any potential problems at the pass. (Prevention is easier than cure.)
I have seen some fanfic that is okay, and I have seen some that is just lewd and disgusting and glorifies hatred and violence. To start with, don’t let her read anything you would not enjoy yourself. You ARE the parent, right? We are not here on this earth to be our children’s pals. Parenting is the toughest job there is and it is not for cowards.
It’s like not brushing your teeth regularly. You can get away with it for a while, but in the end…. You get the picture. Anyway, I hope this helps and Good Luck!

It definitely depends on where she reads it.
If its on fanfiction.net, chances are its ok to read. However, venturing outside of that site can be pretty tricky, since archives have various different formants and requirements. With most sites, remind youre daughter to act with some caution and use her instincts when it comes to reading. For example, if she's reading adultfanfiction.net, it is definitely time to talk to her., as it is an 18+ site. Personal fanfic websites can also be very tricky, as the authors don't always take the time out to rate their stories as bigger sites would require of their posters.
The best answer is: do your own research. Search for sites on your own and maybe suggest a few of them that you may find. If your daughter is into a particularly popular fandom, chances are there's a site dedicated exclusively to that fandom. It sounds silly, but trust me, its actually interesting to get involved. My mother listens to me ramble on about my fanfiction, after all. :)

Wow you're really nosey.
Fanfiction is fine to read, it takes an imagination to write and it takes an literary interest to read.
I bet she might even write it herself. Leave her alone.

It's mainly up to your daughter if she wants to continue reading it or to stop.
