I collect fountain pens, which can be small works of art. Back in the days before pens were throw-away items, fountain pens were made to be both beautiful and useful and some were intended to last a lifetime.

I have ballpoint pens, felt-tip pens, roller-ball and hybrids of all sorts, colours and thicknesses. I also have pencils from 4H to 6B, propelling and clutch pencils, and coloured pencils and wax crayons.
I even have a goose quill which I cut and hollowed.

But my favourite is still a Parker fountain pen with a medium-broad italic nib.
That's what I used to write this answer, which was written on vellum, sealed with wax, and came to you by carrier-pigeon.

Happy New Year!

Yes, I own both. Each has advantages. When writing, I prefer a pen. When doing math, I prefer a pencil.

Nobody owns anything, since when we die we can't take them with us. They're either destroyed or passed on to someone else. So yes I am temporarily renting a pen and pencil.

No, I carve the rocks in my yard when I need to jot something down.
I happen to have my novel entirely etched into limestone. I'm fixing on putting my final version into sandstone 'cause I hear it's lighter and it'll be cheaper to mail to the publisher that way.

;)
