Yes they are bad for America. At one time in our history they had a purpose, during the 50-60's when segregation was in place. But now days they are doing everything they can to detroy the USA from the inside out. What ever happened to the day when the Majority Ruled??!! Now its seems that the minority is taking over. Every group, sub-group, or wanna-be-group wants their own rights. Well, thats just not possible.

the ACLU is Bad for America.

You guys kill me!

The ACLU is the only agency that gives the poor access to the courts on constitutional issues, some which you would probably agree with! They have also taken cases I disagree with. But they are all constitutional issues for a court to decide, not a persons whim!

Their latest action is to keep Bush from opening and reading private, protected, 1st Class mail without a court order! Thsre is nothing that says to me that Bush cares a damn thing about the Constitution as he seems to find new ways to violate it daily!

The constitution gives all of us equal access to the court. Being poor should not be a reason the Constitution does not keep it's word!

We need the ACLU, whether you like it or not!

You want to deport all members of the American Civil Liberties Union? You must be one of those people that feel that the government should take away as many liberties and rights as they see fit ,as long as they tell you it is for the War on Terrorism.
I think that you should be concerned with the reason they exist, which is maintaining the rights of ALL Americans as granted by the Constitution and other laws.

So yes the ACLU is good for America, people like you aren't. Maybe you should be deported to a place where you can learn to appreciate freedom and liberty.

Of course it is good for America. America fought a revolutionary war to free themselves from tyranny and become the land of the 'free'. It is these freedoms that the ACLU fights for. To give you the right to speak out like you're doing now. If you don't like your civil liberties, move to North Korea.

No, how about taking away the assets of the GOP and deporting them ? They have WAY more much money than the ACLU ! BTW, these anti-ACLU comments are getting old. You must miss the yahoo news BBS you used to post this babble on...

Lumberjack, you responded to one of my questions about an estate representative. You went on ranting and raving about the ACLU. You called me a "brain-washed idiot". I didn't ask you anything about the aclu and I have no idea why you would state such response to my question that has nothing to do with the aclu. Maybe you are just an idiot. Please delete you response from my question. IDIOT!!!!! READ MORE CAREFULLY NEXT TIME.

The ACLU is essential to America. They might not always be right, but they do their part to keep the system on it's toes. Your first question does not warrant a response other than this.

There are countries where unpopular views are suppressed and where unpopular organizations can be closed down just as you suggest. We have a term for these countries - dictatorships.

The most important free speech is the unpopular kind. While people are allowed to say things the majority of the population disagree with, we have a free and healthy society. When people are no longer free to say whatever they are thinking, then our democracy is in trouble.

Yes the ACLU is good for America. The purpose of the ACLU is to protect individual civil rights from government intrusion. The keystone of the American system of government is "majority rule, with minority rights." If it weren't for civil rights groups fighting for minority rights, and for courts to prevent abuses of power by the Government (so-called "activist" judges, which, these days are actually politically conservative) then there would be no one to stop the government from paying lip service to the individual rights preserved in the Constitution but simply trampling over them at will.
Just because you're not in the minority now doesn't mean you won't be later. And whether the ACLU is protecting the rights of women to choose, protecting the speech of the KKK, protecting the rights of detainees to counsel, protecting the rights of "ordinary" criminals to due process and protection of privacy, or protecting the rights of religious minorities from persecution by a near-theocratic government, they protect our rights to be free from intruding eyes, to be free to speek our mind, to be free to worship how we choose, and to be free from arbitrary searches, arrests, detention, or torture by the police.

YES!! I am in full support of that. They are not protecting liberties anymore, but trying to push their own political and social views. They have lost all value.
I feel that the ACLU has become too bureaucratic and ridicules. T
