It's to see if your immune to rubella [ German measles]. You normally get immunised for it at about 13 years old but this can wear off after a few years. If you catch rubella while pregnant it can cause blindness in the baby plus other disability's. I was still immune with my first child but during the second my immunity had worn off, so i had to be care full to stay away from people as you can 't have immunisation if your pregnant . After I had the baby i was immunised again and luckily my baby was OK, as I'd not been in contact with anyone with rubella but I'd worried about all through the pregnancy.

He's not testing you for rubella - he's testing you for rubella immunity. You probably had a rubella vaccination when you were at school. Rubella (German Measles) is very dangerous if caught during pregnancy, which is why they vaccinate girls before they have a chance to get pregnant.
Just in case your vaccination didn't work, or you didn't have one, he will check if you are immune. You probably are. If you weren't he might recommend the vaccination now before you are pregnant.
It's a routine test.

you were probably vaccinated for rubella as a child, but vaccines wear off. If you had rubella as a child, you will have lifelong natural immunity. Rubella is a minor illness for children, but it should be avoided when you're pregnant-it can harm your unborn baby. So they're probably checking for tithers (immunity)to rubella.
it also has nothing to do with chicken pox, they are two separate illnesses!

Rubella is related to Chicken Pox. To get Chicken Pox/Rubella during pregnancy can be very harmful. If you have never had chicken pox, they may ask you to get the vaccine, just as a precautionary measure.

Rubella (german measels) can be damaging to the foetus/baby if caught when pregnant. They will carry out a blood test to see if you have had german measels. If they find you have not they will give you an inoculation against it to prevent catching it if exposed to the germ.

Because Rubella is a producer of defects in the foetus in pregnancy, testing will make sure you don't have it and then you will be inoculated against the disease.

its a standard test when TTC. if you are not immune they will want to give you a booster shot. rubella can cause mental defects and physical as well as hearing loss and blindness if you get it while pregnant.

Because rubella (also known as German Measles) can cause birth defects, they are trying to find out if you are immune to it.
