I thought about starting off selling homemade crafts - any ideas would be appreciated, but of course, I need to know first how to get started with this.

The best place is to have your own internet store and use Ebay on some level as a supplement. Ebay gives the option to fix the price but also to allow an item to be up for auction. However, it also pays to also network in your own neighborhood and community because it can lead to leads for more business. However, I do have more tips to starting a business.

Score is an organization which is a part of the Small Business Administration. It is made up of retired business executive volunteers. There are offices across the United States.

A good website and having its own url and not a subdomain is the best for having a business on the internet because of items being indexed on the search engines. I have listed a great place to start. Will also need a merchant account because it will help you accept payments online.

It also becomes important to start a blog because it will keep individuals coming back on some level. It is a great way to share knowledge about crafts or even current projects related to the business.

A digital camera comes in great because pictures of products help sell the craft products.

Business cards is a must with the website on it. Can be handed out at craft shows or in public.

Attend local craft shows and contests. It can help bring exposure to your business.

Save your receipts for everything related to the business. It can come in handy at tax time.

However, please check with the local zoning about starting a business in the neighborhood because some places might have a regulation against it. Can create problems for some forms of advertising and marketing of it.

I have included some links on both the business end and also related to craft businesses.

It can be approached a couple of ways. One is to be basically an Affiliate for any number of legitimate Home Based Businesses. As an affiliate you are basically selling the products. Another is to work the program yourself. Example is Type At Home, or Data Entry you can sell the product to other people online, or you can work the program yourself. The difference is if you sell the product every time someone signs up and pays the $49. you get a good percentage of that as an affiliate. If you work the product then you get paid, providing it is a legitimate company, by the amount of work you do. There are some like SFI where you can do both quite well. It is essentially free to join, although it is generally wise to sign up for an upgrade within the first three months.

Both my personal website and sfi's is listed below.

Good Luck
