I have been meaning to find another job in the last year, but too lazy to start new again, been in this job for 3 yrs now, I like it, not love it, my pay could be better with my long experience in this field, no benefits, only health. Should I be serious in looking for a new job this year and really go through with it.? My past job, had great pay, great staff and working environment, and benefits the whole nine...(this was in another state, before I moved back to Calif. )This job bores me a lot also...My boss is a cheap skate, should I try to ask for a raise which I know she wont give..or just move on....

You should ask for a raise. But keep in mind that raises are usually small. They are taken as a percentage of your salary. would you be happier with 2.5% raise? That's what I got when I asked. First, I got highly enthusiastic reply that ohh yes, my salary will be reconsidered and yes, most likely there will be a good raise for me. Than I got that 2.5% raise. I found a new job 2 months later. My old boss was asking me if I could reconsider and stay. I said I will be happy to stay if they can match the salary from my new offer. That didn't happen. I moved on to a better salary and a better life.

If you have a 40 hour week job, you spend more of your waking hours on the job than you do any where else. So, if you like your job, you are very fortunate in some respects. How ever, if you are not meeting your living expenses, then it's time to ask for a raise. If you don't receive one, then, it's time to look for another job. Who knows, if you start looking, you might find a job similar to what you are doing now. One you will enjoy as well as receive better pay and benefits. Good luck in what ever you decide.

Doesn't hurt to look. Don't quit your job until you have options. It is funny how employers sometimes see your value as they see you about to leave them for a higher salary. In my case this resulted in a significant pay rise to not let me go and I was happy because I too liked my job.
