Try Fadi's on Westheimer for Mediterranean cuisine. Or Madras Pavilion for South Indian fare. Both relatively inexpensive but don't count on ambiance but food is excellent.

My husband and I used to live in Houston and we loved going to MiMi's on Westheimer. It is nothing romantic but the food is great, they are open late, and are extremely inexpensive. The service is really good too. We also loved Cafe Adobe.
