I am looking for a fuel tank for my 1980 e21 bmw and can't find one anywhere on the internet, any ideas where I might get one?

look up some of the major scrap dealers and salvage companys in england not sure where your based but hayles is a good one in briston and luton etc. Try salvage and of courses there is always ebay you prob will find the car cheaper than the tank lol good luck

Yes, there is a sending unit in the tank with a float. As the level changes so does the Gage. It sounds like either the unit has failed or there may be a short in the wiring. Find a wiring diagram and trouble tree. Follow the directions very carefully. DO NOT go into the fuel tank unless you are a qualified tech, gas and fumes can KILL YOU. Be very care full and good luck.

Look in yellow pages under breakers. there usually ones that deal exclusively with bmw. One up north but sorry i dont have number to hand. The have new and used parts

you really are wasting your time looking for a fuel tank in a scrapyard ..best to go to some where like BMW owners club where the members all ways seem to know of some one who knows some one who es got one !

Not sure where you're at, but Ive used both these guys for a fuel tank and used parts before.

eurocar parts they are very cheap and deliver, i have an e36 coupe and paid £37 for rear discs and pads.
