You didn't specify a price range so I'll tell you what I know since I'm a school bus driver part time and hear all kinds of stuff. Cell phones appear to be a must at that age, although I don't condone it. If they already have a cell phone then ring tone downloads are the next popular item or if they don't have unlimited minutes, which if you're crazy enough to get a teenager a cellphone without unlimited minutes you'd best have a 6 digit income, then you can purchase additional minutes for their phone. Gift certificates to Abercrombie, Ipod or music downloads for the Ipod, are also really popular. Bottom line is at that age they are really fussy about clothes but they love clothes so gift certificates to the most ratty looking clothing store would probably be a hit.

I'd love to get a computer or laptop if I was twelve! Those can be a little on the expensive side at times, so a good substitute for that, might be an electronic, handheld Nintendo DS or PlayStation. Even if some girls aren't tomboys, they like those - but sometimes moms doesn't, so a good present might be a DVD player that the girl can take anywhere, or a notebook. Those are some affordable choices, I'd say.

At this age girls are getting more fashion and image conscious. I do believe in gifting more than superficial material goods though. I suggest a combo of gift cards. Perhaps one to her favorite clothing store (or a general mall gift card) and one to a bookstore. That way, she can pick out some clothing she will appreciate while exercising her mind.

A 15 or 16 yr old boy?

Or a puppy. (She might find that more fun to be out and about with!)
