When are W-2's normally mailed out by employers?

As the other posters have mentioned, the W-2s must be postmarked by the end of January. Check with your HR/payroll department for details on when they will mail them out. You should also ask if they offer online access to the forms. Many larger firms with online payroll systems make the information available by the second week of January.

I believe they need to be mailed by Jan 31

They have to be postmarked by 1/31.

Most large companies and some small ones wait until the very last minute it seems.......

Talk to your HR person.
