HISTORY
The song was written by Evanescence's former guitarist, Ben Moody, with Amy Lee adding the bridge. Like all songs written by Moody, the lyrics are based on a short story he wrote.

Several versions of the song exist: one demo version the band made from 1997-1998, which includes some different lyrics (it's entirely written and composed by Moody); one featured on the band's demo album, Origin (lead singer Amy Lee recomposed the song and changed the lyrics); the one featured on Fallen (similar to the one on Origin, except with added strings); their Mystary EP version (similar to the band version, minus the band); and "My Immortal (Band Version)", the radio version mentioned above in which the final phrase of the music is filled with heavy guitars and drums (where it is filled with strings in the radio version) which was the version used in the music video and was also included as an additional track in newer editions of their album Fallen.

MUSIC VID.
The video for "My Immortal" was shot in Barcelona (the fountain in the video is a tourist stop for many fans) and played in black-and-white. Throughout the video, Lee is never seen touching the ground. When asked about this by an observant fan, she replied that it is because she is a ghost.[citation needed]

OTHER SH!t:
"My Immortal" was used in 2003 by the WWE in a tribute video to 'Classy' Freddie Blassie as well as a tribute to Eddie Guerrero. Also, it was used in the charity event "Children In Need" in a video plea for funds to aid children who need special help.

The song also featured in Daredevil (movie) along with the bigger hit "Bring Me to Life"; the song was track 17 on Daredevil: The Album, but had some differences from the version that was later released as a single.

A quick 20 second clip from the song was used for the promo commercial of the hit TV sitcom Friends season finale.
