Because there are over 250 figures of speech, we're not quite sure what you are looking for.

But I know that personification is often taught along with simile and metaphor, so perhaps that's what you're thinking of.

Personification is a special kind of metaphor.

Just thinking about what else you might be thinking of--

in addition to those listed in other answers, what about onomatopoeia? You should be able to find a whole list of figures of speech on the Internet.
