Hi, I want this item on E-Bay that has a bidding increment of 5 dollars. The current bid is 400 dollars and I am willing to pay 500 dollars. If I bid 500 right now, will it be 500 dollars or will it be like 405 dollars and if someone bids more on that, mine will increase to beat it until it goes up to 500 dollars? Thanks in advance.

It'll be $405 and then goes on.
At the end you got to pay the maximum bid your opponent or the other bidders bid plus the bidding increment.

If you bid it for 500 now and let us say the maximum bid your oppnents place before it expires is 450. It'll be 455 adding the next 5 dollars of your bid.

That's it simple. Now go ahead and place the bid. Remember me if you get it for less. hehe ;-)

If you bid the $500 right away, that will be your MAX bid and it will show that you bid $405. Anyone else that bids will get outbid right away since you overbid them unless they enter a bid that is over your $500 one.

So, go ahead and bid the $500 on the item, just remember that someone can outbid you on the item though. I would wait to see what the bidding is at shortly before the auction has ended and then go ahead and bid on it then. But you can choose to bid on it right away.

So, if you do bid the $500 and when the auction ends and the highest bid is say you with $450 then that is what you pay and not the $500.

This is called proxy bidding

If you can go as high as $500 and the current bid is $400 and you bid $400, what it will show is $405. But if someone else comes in and bid anything less than your maximum bid of $500, eBay will automatically top the bid using your bid.

For example, bidder A comes in and places a bid of $420, ebay will automatically bid for you $425 -- until someone comes in and bid higher than $500.

You can read about proxy bidding from ebay http://pages.ebay.com/help/buy/proxy-bidding.html

Go in and bid the most you are willing to pay. your bid will increase by the proper increments. so if the highest bid is 425 and you bid 500 you will win the auction for 430. one thing, if you are new to ebay most items increase the most in the last five minutes of the auction so if you really want the item you might watch it live at the end. good luck

you can bid your max of $500,but you can still be beat ,last minute at $505+,,anyway you sorta answered your own question,,yes as your max is set,, there will bebidders, who will bring it up toward your max of $500, you might get the item at $425,, or more,, it is hard to say, depending how hard the other bidders want the item and when you plan to bid your max, it all about timing....

It will not automatically jump to $500.00 unless the other bidders have put a $500.00 limit as well.
