The lady in the cubicle next to me has lied to three people passing by about where the guy is that she works with.
I heard him tell her earlier that he was leaving for the day and going home and she is telling people that he is with a client and can't be bothered.
Why lie? I don't get it.

She just doesn't want to put up with all the whining and complaining that would occur if she actually told them he had went HOME!
She could just as easily said in all truth, He is not here. He said he was leaving for the day , if you would like to make an appointment I'll be glad to schedule it for you.

Some people are just that way they lie when telling the truth is easier, Hay have you ever asked a habitual lier if they are a habitual lire, they will answer no every time

Maybe he asked her to lie for him- or it's an unspoken agreement. People don't like to hear that the person they came to see or have called to talk to is out of the office- makes them think he doesn't care. By telling them he's with someone and taking a message, she's saving his *** from people being mad that he's never in his office when they need him.

Lying isn't a good deed at all and people waste their time when doing so. Lying is one of those things that are untolerable. I can't manage having friends who do so and I can't handle them either. I prefer a clean person, with all good deeds, and nothing more than that. When people fail to show me their kindness, I just go crazy inside.

people lie to try to hide something or make themselves look important. Could it be one of these, or she feels superior when she can tell someone a lie and they believe it.
