It means how you display your project. Some students keep it simple and use colored chart paper they buy at Walmart while others get really elaborate and make a wooden display case. It simply means how you choose to display your work, what you use as a background to show your charts, diagrams, displays, etc. to their best advantage. Think about store windows - they are displays and they often have a background - something behind to make things look good. Best of luck with it.

A background can be background research where you learn more about your topic. (ex: if you were doing something about plants, then your background research would be on plants) The background research is part of your paper that you have to have for the science fair. It can also be the background of your science fair display board which you can choose to decorate or not to, it's your choice.
