I am personally surprised that Mark Loretta had to wait this long to get a job.
He is a pesty player who hits for average and gets on base.
I think that his impact will be better than a utility infielder; he will get plenty of playing time.
He is a solid hitter with a good glove and he is consistent, and this should benefit the Astros and their possible playoff run.

Good move for the Astros. Not sure if it was necessary but it can't hurt. He was one of the better second baseman on the market (Adam Kennedy and Mark DeRosa might have been better options if they needed a middle infielder), but I figured they would go after a younger guy to replace Biggio in a couple of years. Instead they settle for a one-year deal with Loretta. He was a solid player last year but was used to being used every day. I'm not sure how content he will be with his playing time next season, but he is still a quality player.

Good move for the Astros I cannot beleive that with all the money the Red Sox threw around this winter they could not find $1.5 million to sign this guy. He is a good clubhouse guy who can hit and field. He also played the last 6 weeks of the year on one leg.Great move by the Astros.

Very good for the Astros. A bad offense (25th in runs and 29th in avg) in need of more baserunners. A .300 avg/.400 OBP guy is exactly what they needed to get men on base for Lance Berkman to drive in.

Yea it's a good pick-up for the Stros. I am personally a Cards fan and wished that the Cards went for Loretta instead of Kennedy. He will be well surrounded by Berkman and Ensberg.

Solid pickup. Loretta gets on base and ususally hits around .300. He has a little pop left in his bat, and Houston's short porch in left helps anyone.

I'm VERY disappointed that the Red Sox didnt re-sign him and so are many other Sox fans. It was a mistake not to keep him and the Sox will regret it. He's a class act and wish him the best of luck!

It's a decent pick up. Houston is doing everything it can to upgrade the team. They really want to get Biggio a ring so bad!!
